EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

A Baxter County, Arkansas, child exploitation investigation into 61-year-old Michael Raymond Wamser expanded after a search of his Gamaliel residence uncovered additional child sexual abuse material, an improvised pipe bomb, psychedelic mushrooms, suspected kratom, drug paraphernalia, and approximately 50 firearms. Wamser faces 49 felony CSAM-related counts, with additional felony charges tied to the explosive device, drugs, and firearms. The case combines cyber-enabled child exploitation with physical public safety risks that required bomb squad response and controlled disposal of the device.

ANALYSIS

Wamser was arrested after an investigation into child exploitation and booked on 34 counts of pandering or possessing a medium depicting sexual conduct with a child and 15 counts of distributing, possessing, or viewing matter depicting child sexual contact. All 49 original counts are felonies. Investigators said Wamser admitted to owning multiple online accounts used to download and view CSAM.

The case widened during the search of Wamser’s Fout Road residence. Deputies and state police found additional CSAM, a pipe bomb, psychedelic mushrooms, drug paraphernalia, suspected kratom, and approximately 50 firearms. The pipe bomb was found in the home and required a bomb squad response. The device was removed and later destroyed through a controlled detonation.

The search findings changed the risk profile of the case. What began as a child exploitation investigation moved into a broader weapons, explosives, and narcotics matter. The combination of an improvised explosive device, dozens of firearms, and controlled substances created an immediate safety hazard for search personnel and increased the potential consequences of any mishandling or confrontation at the residence.

Additional felony charges include possession of an explosive device, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Reporting differs slightly on the procedural timing of those charges, with some accounts describing them as newly supported by probable cause and others noting they were still pending in online booking or court records as of April 30.

Wamser was held in the Baxter County Detention Center on a reported total bond of $400,000. He is expected in court on May 11 for the CSAM case and has been ordered to have no contact with children. He also has a separate pending 2025 case involving aggravated assault and terroristic threatening, with a jury trial scheduled for Aug. 10.
