A Baton Rouge teenager was fatally shot and five others injured in a food court brawl at the Mall of Louisiana on April 23; one suspect is in custody and a second remains at large.

Shamar Elkins, 31, killed eight children ages 3 to 11, including seven of his own, in Shreveport, Louisiana on April 19. Elkins was fatally shot by police following a carjacking attempt. No terrorism nexus; the attack is being investigated as domestic violence. It is the deadliest mass shooting in the United States since January 2024.
